Why Easter?
Easter is the celebration of the day the Jesus was resurrected from the dead. We celebrate Easter not only because Jesus came back to life after He had publicly died but also because of the way and reason that He died.
Jesus died a cruel death as a punishment for sin that He did not commit. He died as punishment for the sins that we have committed (and will commit). According to the Bible, our sins should have brought punishment and judgment upon us, but instead, Jesus took our place and received that punishment Himself.
After Jesus took the punishment that we deserved, He did what no one else has ever done, and He raised Himself back to life. Why is this so important? According to Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:17, Jesus’ resurrection proved the validity of His sacrifice on our behalf. You see, only a perfect human could offer a sacrifice that would cancel the punishment that we were destined to receive. Jesus was that perfect sacrifice and His resurrection not only proves that His sacrifice was pure but it also gives us the promise that we too will be resurrected with Him (Philippians 3:20-21).
So we celebrate Easter because Jesus has both forgiven our sins and given us the hope of eternal life with Him! You can share in that same eternal life. Romans 10:9 says “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
